I am looking for the family of Gloria Browne!
Gloria Browne was a woman I met about 25 years ago. At the time, I was writing a photography column for the Wasaga Beach Times, a weekly newspaper, where she was a reporter. She was 63 years old, having been born in 1928. She was feisty, funny, worldly, dedicated, smart, hard working and a joy to be around.
We quickly became friends. She lived behind "The Chicken Lady," a take-out restaurant on Hwy 92 in the beach. I believe her sister was the manager, and there was a small apartment in the back of the building. Gloria and I used to laugh and call her sister "The Chicken lady" even though she didn't resemble a chicken at all!
Gloria has quite a history. She lived in Ontario in Wasaga Beach, Elmvale, and Barrie. She also lived in Nanaimo, B.C. She was "with" and "not with" her husband Eddie various times. She was trying to stand on her own and live beyond the boundaries that were always imposed on her by her mother and by Eddie. I had the joy of knowing her as she was stepping forward in her life during her senior years. Gloria is worth remembering.
I have a series of letters and poems written by her in the early 90's which outline her thoughts and parts of her life. I would like to give these items and photographs to someone in her family, so Gloria's family can know the part of Gloria that I know.
Family names include: Bob, Chelsey,Robyn, Ashley, Jean, Crystal, Donna, Courtney, Barb, Brenda, and of course, Eddie.
If you are reading this page and any of it makes sense to you, please fill out the form below and send me a note.
Thanks
